  • Noorudin Jiwani
    CEO

  • Before co-founding Aliya's Foods Limited, Noorudin Jiwani owned and operated Indian and Continental food restaurants in East Africa from 1995 to 1999. Mr. Jiwani also operated a successful import/ export of commodities business in international markets during the same time period as well. He was a consultant to a food manufacturing facility to automate the production of peanut butter as well as establishing effective systems for production.

    From 1981 to 1995, Mr. Jiwani was the Assistant Vice President at Buck Consultants, Toronto, an actuarial consulting firm, where he provided consulting services and performed valuations of Corporate Pension Plans, design and implementation of Pension Administrative Systems. He was also very instrumental in business development and acquiring new corporate clients. Mr. Jiwani has a degree in Mathematics and Statistics from McMaster University. Mr. Jiwani served two terms as a member on the Board of the Alberta Food Processors Association. Mr. Jiwani is one of the 10 founding members of the CEO Club in Edmonton. Mr. Jiwani is also a volunteer with the World Partnership Walk, raising funds from corporate and individual donors in support of international development programs.


  • Nashir Jiwani
    Chief Operating Officer

  • Nashir has had more than 25 years of progressive manufacturing and senior management experience in food packaging and chemical processing industries both in Canada and internationally. He is skilled in start up and turnaround situations.

    Before joining Aliya’s in January 2007, Nashir was the Vice President of operations for Hartmann North America, a Danish food packaging company operating out of Brantford, Ontario. His responsibilities included managing a 200 unionized employee manufacturing facility. Prior to joining Hartmann, Nashir was the Managing Director for DuPont Liquid Packaging Systems based in India with responsibilities for total management of the business and manufacturing in South East Asia, Middle East and Africa. Whilst in India, Nashir managed the relocation of the DuPont plant from Pune to Savli. Whilst with DuPont in Canada, Nashir held varied senior management positions such as Project Manager for a $50M Greenfield chemical processing plant in Gibbons, Alberta, Business Manager for food packaging films and netting, Corporate Purchasing Manager, Plant Engineer and Plant Supervisor.

    Nashir holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from McGill University and an MBA from York University. In addition, Nashir has had formal training in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Negotiations.


  • Anis Jiwani
    VP Operations

  • Before founding Aliya's Foods Limited, she owned and operated Indian and Continental restaurants in East Africa. Prior to that, she ran her own consulting firm in Ontario where she was primarily involved in providing Nutrition services to the Health Care Industry as well as preparing Nutritional labels and new product development for the food manufacturing industry. Anis has a Food and Nutrition degree from Ryerson University in Toronto and is a Registered Dietitian. She completed her internship at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, where she was very instrumental in completing the Policy and Procedure Manual for a Kosher Kitchen, its implementation and the computerization of the Food Service Department.


  • Shiraz Karmali
    Accounts

  • Shiraz is a seasoned chartered accountant with over 30 years of accounting, auditing, systems and tax experience. His past employers include the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta, CN Rail, Government of Alberta, Departments of Treasury and Energy. Shiraz also has over 10 years of hands on business experience as a CEO of his own group of companies in the hospitality industry and retired from this in the year 2000 due to personal reasons. Shiraz worked as a management and tax consultant for Expensave Canada based in North York, Ontario for 4 years from 2002 -2006. Prior to working as a tax consultant, Shiraz worked for Aliya’s for a period of 18 months when Aliyas was just getting off the ground in years 2000 and 2001. In September 2006 Shiraz re-joined Aliya’s Foods as its Controller. His education background includes a Bachelor of Technology and Computer Science degree from UK, chartered accountancy qualifications from UK and Canada (Alberta) and attending many short professional development business courses and conferences


  • Naushad Jiwani
    Director Freight & Logistics

  • Naushad Jiwani graduated from Waterloo University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. In addition to running his own business he was recently involved in running an Italian Food manufacturing facility in Toronto. He was instrumental in growing the business from a start-up to a multi-million dollar organization till it was sold in 2008. He subsequently joined Aliya’s Foods as a Production Manager at the Sherwood Park plant and is involved in its day to day operations.


  • Kenneth Chan
    Manager Product R&D

  • Before joining the Aliya’s Foods management team in 2010, Ken began his career at Statistics Canada where he developed his public relations and customer service skills; he later left to pursue an increased understanding systems and processes as they pertain to business, working for Canadian Blood Services, Premium Brands Holding Corporation at the Grimm’s Fine Foods Edmonton and Quality Fast Foods divisions, Maxxam Analytics and Gordon Food Services at the Intercity Cooking division. It is this unique combination of diverse yet complementary experience that makes him strong asset to the company in his current role. Ken holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta majoring in biological science with a minor in chemistry.
